Who is this course for?

In 2020, The Department for Education (DfE) made First Aid training compulsory for students in England's state-funded schools. Teaching first aid in schools empowers children to act quickly and effectively in an emergency, helping them develop life-saving skills from an early age.

At Start Confident First Aid, we deliver practical, hands-on courses tailored for primary and secondary school pupils, designed to align with the national curriculum requirements.

Our 2-hour sessions are fun, engaging, and age-appropriate, using role-play and practical demonstrations to build children's confidence and skills in handling emergencies.

What will they learn?

Primary Schools (Key Stage 2)

  • Recognising emergencies – Identifying situations where first aid is needed.

  • Treating common injuries – Managing cuts, grazes, burns, and head injuries.

  • Emergency calls – How to confidently call 999 or 112.

  • Recognising danger – Spotting hazards to keep themselves and others safe.

  • Seeking help – Knowing when to involve an adult.

  • Basic life-saving skills – Checking for responsiveness, breathing, and placing someone in the recovery position.

  • First aid kits – Understanding what’s inside and how to use it.

Secondary Schools (Key Stage 3 & 4)

  • Building on first aid knowledge – Expanding understanding of injuries and illnesses.

  • Life-saving techniques – Learning how to administer CPR.

  • Defibrillator awareness – Understanding the purpose and use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
