Who is this course for?
The Paediatric First Aid course is a two-unit award, comprising:
Unit 1: Paediatric Emergency First Aid
Unit 2: Managing Paediatric Illness and Injury
This course is specifically tailored for individuals working with children and infants, making it particularly beneficial for teachers, childminders, nursery workers, assistants, playgroup staff, and anyone responsible for the welfare of children in their care. Through this qualification, learners will acquire essential knowledge and practical skills that empower them to confidently manage a variety of paediatric first aid situations. Participants will gain the competence to respond effectively in emergencies and the confidence to provide the highest level of care for the children under their supervision. This two-day qualification fulfils the requirements for first aid training detailed in the Department for Education’s statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.
The qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA), an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual and SQA Accreditation. It sits on both the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).
The qualification is delivered, assessed, and quality assured adhering to the Assessment Principles for Regulated First Aid Qualifications, and delivered and assessed in accordance with the current Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines.

Duration | Total Qualification Time (TQT) for this course is 15 hours, with at least 12 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) in the classroom over a minimum of 2 days plus independent pre-course study. The qualification can be delivered over a maximum of a 6-week period with each training session being a minimum of 2 hours. |
Certification | The qualification is valid for 3 years from the date of achievement and meets the EYFS/OFSTED/HSE guidance 2025. It is highly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years. A learner must successfully pass both written and practical assessments to achieve the qualification. There is no grading of the assessment; learners pass or are referred. It may be possible to grant a reasonable adjustment for a learner who has a disability, medical condition or learning need following the FAA Reasonable Adjustment and Special Consideration Policy. For example, assistance could be given with reading or writing. |
