Who is this course for?
AEDs are now increasingly accessible in public and workplace settings, and using one can significantly boost a casualty’s survival rate when operated by trained personnel. This practical course equips learners with the confidence and competence to use an AED effectively on adults, children and infants. It also includes essential basic life support training, such as resuscitation, aimed at those responsible for first aid at work, parents and caregivers or those helping in voluntary settings. Learners will gain the knowledge and skills to recognise cardiac arrest and respond quickly, calmly and confidently.
The qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA), an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual and SQA Accreditation and sits on both the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).
The qualification is delivered, assessed, and quality assured in line with the Assessment Principles for Regulated First Aid Qualifications and the current Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines.

Duration | A minimum of 3.5 contact hours in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities. The 3.5 hours of required classroom contact time can be completed in a single half-day session, or spread over a maximum of 2 weeks, with each session lasting a minimum of two hours. |
Certification | This qualification is valid for 3 years from the date of achievement. The course Instructor is responsible for determining whether delegates pass or fail, based on ongoing practical demonstrations, oral questioning throughout the course and the completion of a written question paper at the end. The requalify for another 3 years, the learner will need to complete the full course again.
