Activity First Aid - FAA Level 3 Award - 2-Day

Who is this course for?

This qualification is designed to provide a learner with the knowledge and practical competence required to deal with a wide range of first aid situations with a focus on sports and activity related conditions.


The qualification is suitable for learners working in outdoor and activity environments or involved in other settings such as voluntary and community activities.


This qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA), an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual and SQA Accreditation. It sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).


The qualification is delivered, assessed, and quality assured adhering to the Assessment Principles for Regulated First Aid Qualifications, and delivered and assessed in accordance with the current Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines.


Unit 1, (or day 1) of this qualification contains and covers the learning outcomes of the level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work, so those who wish to gain the level 3 award in EFAW are able to sit day 1 of this qualification.


What will they learn?

A range of subjects are covered including:

  • Responsibilities and reporting

  • Assessment of the situation

  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty

  • Basic hygiene in First Aid

  • Fractures

  • Drowning injuries

  • Electrical injuries

  • Heat and cold

  • Resuscitation

  • Heart attacks

  • Minor injuries

  • Bleeding control

  • Head injuries

  • Diabetes

  • Spinal injuries

  • Angina

  • Choking

  • Seizures

  • Shock

  • Asthma

  • Burns


Duration

A minimum of 12 contact hours in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities. Some pre-course preparation may also be required. Ideally the course is delivered in two days, but it can be spread over a longer period if preferred, provided it is completed within four weeks of the start date and each training session is a minimum of two hours.

Certification

A 3 year qualification will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. The instructor conducts summative practical assessments daily, along with a written assessment for unit 2. The HSE strongly recommends an annual three-hour refresher programme for all students.

Reasonable adjustments may be possible for learners with disabilities, medical conditions, or learning needs under the FAA Reasonable Adjustment and Special Consideration Policy.

Numbers

A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course.

Age limit

The qualification is available to learners aged 14 or over, but a learner cannot assume the responsibility of being a first aider in the workplace until they reach the age of 16.
