FAA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid – 1 Day

Who is this course for?
The Paediatric Emergency First Aid – FAA Level 3 qualification is expertly designed for individuals responsible for caring for children and infants. This comprehensive training empowers learners with the knowledge and skills required to effectively manage a variety of paediatric first aid scenarios, including CPR, bleeding control, and choking. By completing this qualification, participants will not only gain essential practical skills but also develop the confidence to respond decisively and competently in emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of the children in their care.

The qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA), an awarding organisation
regulated by Ofqual and SQA Accreditation. It is recognised by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).

The qualification is delivered, assessed, and quality assured adhering to the Assessment Principles for
Regulated First Aid Qualifications, and delivered and assessed in accordance with the current Resuscitation
Council UK Guidelines.

This FAA Emergency Paediatric First Aid qualification is Unit 1 of the two-day FAA Paediatric First Aid
qualification. From gaining this Emergency Paediatric First Aid qualification, learners could progress to
completing unit 2 and be awarded the 2-day FAA Award in Paediatric First Aid.
What will you learn?
A range of subjects are covered including:
• Role of the Paediatric First Aider
• Primary Survey
• Resuscitation (CPR – including the safe use of an AED)
• Wounds, Bleeding and Shock
• Seizures
• Choking
• Minor Injuries
• Bites and Stings
• Recovery Position
Duration
Total Qualification Time (TQT) for this course is 7 hours, with at least 6 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) in the
classroom, plus some pre-course study. Ideally, the course should be delivered over one day but this
qualification can be delivered over a maximum of a 4-week period, with each training session being a
minimum of 2 hours.

Certification
The qualification is valid for 3 years from the date of achievement. It is recommended that the learner attends
annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further
three years.
The qualification is assessed both through practical demonstration and oral questioning.
A learner must successfully pass a practical assessment to achieve the qualification. There is no grading of the assessment; learners pass or are referred.
It may be possible to grant a reasonable adjustment for a learner who has a disability, medical condition or
learning need following the FAA Reasonable Adjustment and Special Consideration Policy. For example,
assistance could be given with reading or writing.

Numbers
A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course.

Age limit
Students must be a minimum of 16 years of age to qualify.
